Sometimes I like to write poems, although I do not claim any special gift from the muse. Below is a link to several poems written between 1987 and 1998, mostly in a contemplative vein.  Amongst my favorite poets are Dante, Rumi, Shakespeare, John Donne, George Herbert, and T. S. Eliot.

John, I like the thought in “Discernment” that “God is sufficient yet… You are enough for me.” In our fast-moving, perpetually dissatisfied, consumer-driven culture I have been learning that I can rest in Him and find that He is enough. That truth is personal and precious, powerful and sustaining for me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts in poems.

Thanks, Steve, for taking time to read the poems. Quite a few were written after walking on the East Bay Bike path during my Sabbath break from church activities on Fridays. Eugene Peterson’s book Working the Angles was helpful to me on keeping a sabbath day as a minister. Thanks for the good work that you are doing.
